Virtual Honoring Excellence conversations recognize service, achievement by distinguished alumni

Each twelvemonth, the College of Arts and Sciences Honoring Excellence anniversary recognizes a distinguished few of our more than than 210,000 living alumni. Their accomplishments are tangible evidence of the lasting value of an Arts and Sciences instruction. These contributions to their fields, communities, country, college and university make a lasting deviation — locally and globally.

The ceremony features the post-obit honors:

  • TheDistinguished Service Accolade, which recognizes exemplary service to the Higher of Arts and Sciences, its faculty, students, prospective students or programs.
  • TheImmature Alumni Accomplishment Award, which recognizes an alumnus/a 35 years one-time or younger who has demonstrated distinctive achievement in a career or civic interest or both.
  • TheDistinguished Alumni Achievement Award, which recognizes the outstanding career achievements and contributions of our alumni in fields such as arts, business organization, enquiry, academics and public service.

This year, the college has reimagined the effect equally a series of conversations in a virtual setting. Webinars with the recipients — who are being recognized for their outstanding achievements and service — will be held May six and May 20.

May 20 Honoring Excellence: Dean Gibson, Keith B. Key, and Rosie Phillips Davis

Rosie Phillips Davis, Distinguished Alumni Achievement Accolade

Rosie Phillips DavisRosie Phillips Davis (MA, didactics, '73; PhD, psychology, '77), PhD, ABPP, professor of counseling psychology at the University of Memphis, earned her doctorate from Ohio State. The president of the American Psychological Association (APA) in 2019, she served on the APA Finance Committee, APA Board of Directors and the American Psychological Foundation Lath. She has besides been the president of the Gild of Counseling Psychology.

Davis served on several editorial boards, including currently on the Periodical of Career Cess. She has authored numerous articles and book chapters and co-edited two books. Her awards include the Janet E. Helms Honour for Mentoring and Scholarship, being named Elderberry by the National Multicultural Conference and Summit (of which she is co-founder) and the APA'south Laurels for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Institutional Practise.

Two funds at the University of Memphis are named in her honour: the Rosie Phillips Bingham Book Scholarship and the Dr. Rosie Phillips Bingham Emergency Educatee Fund. Davis currently serves on the Board of Trustees of LeMoyne-Owen College, a Historically Black College in Memphis, Tennessee. She is the girl of Savanah and Jake Phillips, a old sanitation worker who participated in the 1968 Memphis sanitation strike. She is married to John Davis and is mother to Akil "Apollo" Davis, an adjunct professor and entertainer living in New York.

Dean Gibson, Distinguished Service Award

H. Dean GibsonDean Gibson (BA, sociology, '74) is a retired partner of Aon Hewitt, a global human resources, actuarial, benefits and risk management consulting business firm. An active member of the Ohio State community, he created, chaired and is immediate by chair of the Sociology Advisory Lath, whose members serve the department chair with advice, philanthropic and mentorship support for students, and opportunities to advance the long-term vision and goals of the department.

Gibson serves equally a mentor in the College of Arts and Sciences Lucifer Mentor Program likewise as the new Sociology Mentorship Program, which serves to guide students in their professional and career development success. Gibson likewise serves as a mentor in the Ohio State Immature Alumni Academy, a professional person and personal development program for early-career Ohio State alumni to help participants succeed in their career and life journeys.

Gibson and his wife Susan support the Section of Psychology's Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Brain Imaging, creating a fund in 2010 to provide scholarships for outstanding graduate and undergraduate students and researchers engaged in country-of-the-art, interdisciplinary neuroscience research while seeking solutions to some of the nearly serious and circuitous brain disorders. Gibson also serves on the Lath of Watoto Read, a nonprofit that advocates and provides resource for the education of Sub-Saharan African refugee children.

Keith Fundamental, Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award

Keith KeyAs CEO of Keith B. Key (KBK) Enterprises, Keith Central (BS, economics, '89) brings a host of banking disciplines and entrepreneurial skills to the operations and financial direction of the visitor and all related entities. He has been involved with over $i billion of real-estate development across the state inclusive of residential, commercial and religious-oriented projects. A native of Pittsburgh, Key relocated to Columbus to nourish Ohio State as a educatee-athlete.

Though his able-bodied career was unfortunately cut short, he channeled his leadership qualities from the field to become engaged in student life, where he served every bit president of several pupil organizations and received a bachelor of science in economics. Key used the skills he developed from his experiences in higher and his tenure in the banking and finance industries to build a successful real manor development company. He is committed to shaping the time to come generations of entrepreneurs through his philanthropic efforts at Ohio State. Most notably, Keith donated $1 million to support the Role of Student Life and the Keith B. Key Heart for Student Leadership and Service.

Key is the founder of the Keith B. Key Buckeye Social Entrepreneurship plan (KBK BSEP), and he serves as a board member of The Ohio Country University Alumni Advisory Committee and The Ohio Land University Foundation.

Michael Jaung, Immature Alumni Achievement Award

Michael JaungMichael Jaung (BA, international studies, BS, microbiology, 2008) is an assistant professor at the Henry J.North. Taub Department of Emergency Medicine at Baylor Higher of Medicine. Pam Tanowitz, Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award

Her 2017 dance "New Work for Goldberg Variations" created for her company in collaboration with pianist Simone Dinnerstein, was called a "rare achievement" by The New York Times. Her 2018 creation, "Four Quartets," inspired by T.S. Eliot's literary masterpiece and ready to music by Kaija Saariaho, was called "the greatest cosmos of trip the light fantastic toe theater and then far this century," also by The New York Times.

Tanowitz was recently named a 2020 Doris Duke Artist. She is currently the first-ever choreographer in residence at The Fisher Centre at Bard in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. Other honors include a 2019 Herb Alpert Award, 2017 BAC Cage Cunningham Fellowship, 2016 and 2009 Bessie awards, 2010 Foundation for Contemporary Arts award, 2011 Guggenheim Fellowship, Hodder Fellowship, CBA Fellowship at NYU, BAC Cage Cunningham Fellowship and a New York City Center Choreography Fellowship. Her work was included in The New York Times' "Best of Dance" 2013-2020.

Tanowitz has created for New York Metropolis Ballet, Martha Graham Trip the light fantastic toe Visitor, Paul Taylor American Modern Dance, The Royal Ballet, The Kennedy Center's Ballet Across America, Juilliard Trip the light fantastic toe, Ballet Austin and New York Theatre Ballet.
