Instructions

Crochet Baby Mittens – Pom Pom Mittens Design

The instructions are written equally a combination of crochet pattern and collection of my notes, tips, and tricks, actually, everything I've learned during making this blueprint. The mittens are super easy to make and tin be finished in a very brusque amount of time.

The pattern is made of 3 uncomplicated steps: ribbing, main part and pom-pom. You volition make two exactly the same crochet mittens. The location of the pom-pom and the fold of the mitten will signal which mitten is left and which right. These mittens do not take a special pocket or compartment for a thumb, which is not a problem if you lot are creating baby mittens. But you lot might consider adding information technology if you are making mittens in a bigger size than for a six months old baby. The thumb is helping you when you holding something in your hands because information technology gives you more than force and command.

RIBBING

We volition start with the ribbing. The ribbing is fabricated of single crochet stitches with a small twist. Each row is made into back loops only. If you lot are not familiar with that technique, jump to the video tutorial on how to do that here.

If I summarize it a flake, each stitch has ii loops on the top, a simple 5 shape, or as some people like to call it a heart shape. You volition see it if you watch your stitches from the height of your work. So, the loop closer to you is a front loop, and the loop farther away from yous is a back loop. We normally use both loops, simply as I mentioned earlier, we will crochet all the sts into back loops of each row only.

Accept some yarn in a color of your choice and chain nine. At the end of the foundation concatenation, turn and start in the second chain from the crochet hook. From now on work in simple rows. After each row chain i (chain volition requite us a proper hight of the row, merely in cases like this doesn't count as a stitch), then plow the row and start with the next one.

Row i: Piece of work 1 sc into each of the next 8 chains. Ch 1. = 8 sts.

The following rows are all the same. But work 1 stitch into each sew together all the way across. Don't forget to work into back loops only, then you will go this cute ribbing effect.

Row 2 – 24: Piece of work into BLO. 1 sc into each st beyond. Ch ane. = 8 sts.

Hold both ends of the ribbing together.

Work viii ss st through both ends of the ribbing at the same fourth dimension. Cut the yarn and spike off.

Turn the ribbing inside out, so the seam will exist hidden on the inner side of the mitten.

Principal PART

Take a yarn in a contrasting color and attach it to the ribbing with ch ane. From at present, work in rows. When yous finish your final sew together of the circular, join the round with a slip stitch made into the very first stitch of that circular.

Always starting time the round in the very first sew of the round. The main part of the mitten is fabricated in both loops which means you have to use both, the front and back loop that are on the top of each stitch and not but the dorsum loop as you lot did in the previous office (ribbing).

Round one: Offset in the same stitch and work one hdc into each row from the ribbing all the style around.  = 24 sts.

Round 2 – eight: Ch i. Work 1 hdc into each of the side by side 24 sts. = 24 sts.

If you want, y'all tin can cut the yarn, fasten off and alter the yarn to make the superlative of the mitten in a dissimilar color, then brand the residual of the main function as I did in the video tutorial. If not, simply continue with round 9.

Circular 9: Piece of work i hdc into each of the next 24 sts. = 24 sts.

Nigh done. In the next round join two and ii stitches together.

Round 10: Ch 1. Repeat hdc2tog 12 times. = 12 sts.

Round eleven: Ch 1. Work one hdc into each of the next 12 sts. = 12 sts.

Round 12: Ch 1. Repeat hdc2tog vi times. = vi sts.

Cut the yarn and fasten off. Go out a long tail for sewing.

Turn the mitten inside out. Now take the crochet claw and pull the yarn tail through the hole on the top of the mitten. Take a yarn needle and close the hole with a few simple stitches joining all loops from circular 12 together. Secure the yarn tail between the stitches.

POM-POM

Have a modest corporeality of both shades of yarn and commencement wrapping both strands at the aforementioned time around ii of your fingers. The more times you wrap the yarn effectually the fingers, the fuller the pom-pom volition be.

Now have another strand of yarn and wrap it around the centre of the pom-pom, make a firm knot. take a pair of scissors and cut all the yarn ends that are too long and make a prissy and round pom-pom ball.

If you are using cotton yarn, accept a yarn needle to dissever the fibers to make the pom-pom look nicer and fuller.

Now adhere the pom-pom to the mitten.

Repeat all the steps for the second mitten and yous are done!
